Sosocamo lets the titles he chooses lead his creative direction. The Apex, North Carolina-bred melodic rapper from, as he refers to it, “the sticks,” built his name as a reflection of identity, aesthetic, and loyalty. Cam is his real name, while “camo” nods to the rugged fashion and rural grit of his upbringing. “soso” stamps just how dedicated he is to that life and energy. His debut album no service, builds off the TikTok virality of his hit song “keep steady.” This name is more than a metaphor—it’s reality. In the sticks, there’s no signal - and Cam likes it that way. This is what he refers to as his “big country” aesthetic. Sosocamo makes melodic rap that sits in the trap mainstream, but his sonic fingerprint is shaped by guttural guitar-driven r&b styled melodies and a raw Southern undertone that sets him apart. He wants to make sure he presents more of a complete package through all his output—led by the titles that identify who he is as the human behind some of the stickiest cadences in the game.
His executive producer, Grayto, has also assisted him in crafting an aligned aura and aesthetic to his world-build as Cam focuses mainly on the technical side of music- making. They’ve released two projects, which led to the eventual locked-in pocket of his hit single “keep steady.” Not only did the song go viral on TikTok, reaching viral Spotify charts due to support from people like Philadelphia 76ers guard Jared McCain, but that effort also forayed into co-signs from top Twitch streamers like Jynxzi, Ray (Kai Cenat), and Rakai. What cuts through about the single is one of the stickiest melodies you’ll hear, derived from Cam’s guitar alignment and a palette of sound that fits right in the pocket of a contemporary melodic trap ethos. This is just the beginning for Sosocamo who is looking forward to upcoming NY and LA shows after opening for other modern upstarts like Lazer Dim 700. His new album will culminate all his aesthetic and musical choices thus far as he puts the “big country” that bred him on his back.
